The authentic mountain village of Les Angles has one of the best ski areas in the Pyrenees and a state of the art Live park. Proud of its Catalan roots, its 50 km of trails offer picturesque views of its quaint Catalan churches and its forests and lakes whilst the battalion of snow cannons and its excellent exposition mean great snow conditions.
The pretty village of Les Angles with its pistes sweeping down into the centre of the village, is unique in the Pyrenees. Grouped around its typically Catalonian church, the village with its natural warm springs and the 'Espace Bluneige' leisure centre is great for families. However, its very lively Catalonian nights in its selection of restaurants and bars make it ideal for those looking for a night life as well.
The charming old village of Les Angles has a friendly, welcoming and relaxed atmosphere and a rich history. The old town with its church as its crowning glory and it pretty central square is a pleasure to wander around and from here the road down to the lake passes through dense pine forests. The selection of bars, restaurants and general amenities are easily accessible on the main village through road and a small section above the old village.
Situated above the pretty village of Les Angles lies the ski resort of the same name. The resort extends from 1,600 metres to 2,400 metres with 50km of lift served runs and 36km of cross country and snow shoe trails. It offers picturesque ski trails and views of quaint Catalan churches and the forests and lakes below. This ski resort has been a favourite resort for both French and Spanish for many years.
The resort also features 1 snow park and has 363 strategically placed snow canons to ensure great snow coverage at all times. Les Angles has two Nordic ski areas which are located on either side of the alpine ski area and contain 36km of marked and groomed trails ideal for cross country skiing and snow shoeing.
The Pla del Mir sector of the ski area and the Sources de L’Aude Nordic area can be accessed by road which is on the outskirts of the village on the road to Perpignan. The Balcère Nordic ski area can be accessed via the Ave de Balcère which turns off at the Tourist Office. Shuttle buses run from the “Pelerins” cable car station to both these areas. (See Ski Info section for more details).
Celebrating its 50th anniversary last winter, the ski resort of Les Angles was created in 1964. This small village was once a rural mountain village living of sheep farming and forestry but after the rural exodus it found itself floundering and turned to tourism. It was therefore in 1964 that the first drag lift and chairlift were inaugurated and this was followed by a 4 person gondola painted in the Catalan colours of gold and red. The village began to grow and its first chalets and hotel “le Llaret” were opened to welcome the first ski tourists.
Throughout the year, the resort hosts many major international sporting events and music festivals during the month of January including:
Trace Catalan - French and Spanish alpine ski competition dedicated to Pyrenean competitors.
Depeche Pyrenees - a Pyrenean snowboarding competition tour and the signatory race of the Pyrenees.
Monomitik – an international meeting of the elusive mono-skiers who choose to descend the mountain on a single wide ski called a Monoski.
Garosnow music and skiing festival - a fun filled music festival with music styles from Reggae to hip hop.
Festival of Adventure – as the name implies this is the time to celebrate adventure sports in the area with many famous adventure sports personalities attending and competing
The end of the ski season sees the sunshine and longer warmer days – during the months of March and April events include:
Ultima Freestyle - a race in the Snow Park – this includes BBQs, fancy dress, music and fiesta!! Not for those of a serious nature.
Snow, Bike and Sun - a festive meeting of mountain bike and snow lovers – the aim is to descend on the snow from the Roc d’Aude on the mountain into the village.
There are also daily entertainment organised at the foot of the ski slopes for family and friends alike. Winter events include Christmas celebrations with a visit from Father Christmas; New Year’s Eve with torch lit descent into the village with mulled wine and hot chocolate; Open air dancing in front of the church to see in New Year.
The friendly and helpful Les Angles Tourist Office is open every day during the winter season, 09:00 – 12:00 & 14:00 – 18:00. Their comprehensive website is full of useful information, tips and suggestions.

The serial property includes towns built from scratch by Vauban, citadels, urban bastion walls and bastion towers. There are also mountain forts, sea forts, a mountain battery and two mountain communication structures. Situated above the pretty village of Les Angles lies the ski resort of the same name. The resort extends from 1,600 metres to 2,400 metres with 50km of lift served runs and 36km of cross country and snow shoe trails.
The ski resort of Les Angles is situated in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The ski resort, which begins at a height of 1,600 – 2,400 meters, opened in 1964.
Les Angles is mostly visited by intermediate skiers and beginners, with access to 56km of runs most of which are pretty tree lined runs. There are 44 ski pistes in total including 13 green, 9 blue, 14 red and 8 black runs. The resort has 363 strategically placed snow canons to ensure great snow coverage at all times. There is a busy snow park for the avid boarder, complete with half-pipe and quarter pipes. Not far from the Les Angles village cross country skiers and snow shoe fans can enjoy the two Nordic ski areas with 36km of relaxing, peaceful trails (marked and groomed) through the neighbouring forests.

Shuttle buses run from the “Pelerins” cable gondola station to both these areas. (See Ski Info section for more details).
Les Angles has plenty to offer mixed-ability skiers and families who appreciate a relaxed experience in stunning location with breath taking views. In addition to its relaxed, friendly environment and village and slope side safe areas for beginners and children, Les Angles also offers enjoyable and scenic cruising blue and red runs with a good and varied selection of blacks and some great off-piste possibilities.
The snow record at Les Angles is excellent due to the fact that 60% of the ski area is situated above 2,000m at high altitude.
Furthermore, the ski areas north facing aspect means excellent snow conditions whilst the 363 snow canons covering 70% of the ski area ensure season long snow coverage. The well-groomed pistes are served by a modern and efficient lift system with three access points from the village itself. The resort has a real big-mountain feel with its three distinct and well linked sectors as well as the outlying Nordic ski areas which are easily accessed.
Les Angles has two dedicated beginner’s areas. The first is situated in the centre of the village behind the Oree des Cimes residence and comprises a green beginner’s slope served by “Bamby” drag lift and a magic carpet. It is here that you will also find the ESF ski school, a kindergarten and a toboggan run here. The space is fully accessible to pedestrians and families and friends are invited to come and cheer on their loved ones.
The second Beginner’s area is located at the base of Pla del Mir on the warm south facing gentle slopes amidst the beautiful wooded scenery. It comprises Collade and Faon green slopes served by “Faon” drag lift and a magic carpet. You will also find a toboggan run and the Les Angles Animal Park here.
Once you’ve got to grips with your technique and mastered the beginner’s area and you feel ready to take on your first green piste, the best option is to take the Pelerins cable car to the Bigorre sector and then the Plateau drag lift to practise the green Plateau and Llaret runs.
The Chevreuil green from the top of the Pla del Mir chair lift is a lovely long green which wnds its way back to the Beginner’s area at the bottom. The Collage drag lift is a good end of day run and takes you right back to the village.
When you are ready to face the next challenge of your first blue run, the best place to head is the Bigorre sector which has the best selection of blues.
The high speed San Pere chair lift will ensure that you get the maximum amount of time to practice your technique on the long and lazy blue pistes of Collets, Rigals and Soucarade.
The Panoramic blue not to be missed is the Collects accessible from the top of Roc d’Aure. It affords stunning views over to the Bouillouses Lake and the ski area of Font Romeu. This easy blue is above the tree lining meaning open piste all the way down.
The Bigorre sector is well suited to intermediate skiers with a good selection of blue and red runs.
Easy red runs in the Bigorre sector include the Sorbiers red from the top of the Cabanes lift, the Bruyeres Basses through the forest from the top of the Bruyeres lift.
From the top of the Roc de l’Aude the longer Fountanals and Pallissous runs are the easier reds in to start on.
There is a connecting blue run from the top of Roc d’Aude over to the Jassettes and Balcère sectors where you can find more challenging red runs.
There are a good proportion of red-graded runs in the Jassettes and Balcère sector providing an attainable, confidence-building upgrade path for those who are ready to graduate from the long blue cruisers. Try the long, winding red descents with their stunning vistas from summits like Mont Llaret (2,376m) and Roc d’Aude (2,325m). The reds runs in these sectors are above the tree line meaning some good off piste between the runs after a snow dump. The bottom of these runs entre into the tree line and are gladed meaning cover and good visibility during bad weather and protection from high winds.
More advanced intermediate skiers can really enjoy the scenic red runs and take advantage of the safe areas between them to perfect their powder technique.
Les Angles offers some great runs for experts from the top of the Roc d’Aude and Mont Llaret. The Roc de Peborny black follows the outer limits of the ski area starting out on the open ridge with some great views and then heading down into the tree line becoming a steep black.
The Mur Mermet as its name implies is a wall run with some very steep sections underneath the Jassettes chair lift. The smaller Sourcade noir is a black that runs peels off from the Sourcade pla del Mir blue run and runs parallel to the Sourcade village green run. However the black takes in a steep upper section.
There are also numerous off-piste opportunities for the more adventurous in the Espace Costa Verde.
For those that like to experiment with the off piste, the Espace Costa Verde free ride area is actually quite interesting for lift served off piste within the ski area limits. When the snow and conditions are good you can pop over the back of the Roc d’Aude into this free ride area with its three black off piste runs. Named after the local birds of prey, Épervier, Aigle Royal and Gypaète (hawk, golden eagle and vulture) are great on a powder day.
Snow Park
Located in the Bigorre sector of the ski area is the Snow Park with its exceptional panoramic setting. Les Angles was a pioneer in the Pyrenees when it first created its Snow Park Angles in 1991. Over the years, many champions in freestyle skiing and snowboarding have trained in the park.
The snow park composed of 4 different zones and the Lake Park. The zones require different levels of snowboarding.
Slope style: Advanced and expert snowboarders
Handrail: Advanced and expert snowboarders
Free style airbag: All levels. Long used by professional stuntmen, this inflatable mattress has been specially designed for skiing and snowboarding. It absorbs all the jumps and is perfectly safe. This is an activity for all age groups that opens up jumping and freestyle in a fun and safe environment
Half-pipe: All levels
Lake Park
Completely soundproofed and with a permanent webcam, Lake Park has three play areas equipped for all levels: Whoops, Jumps, Big Air, wall ride and wooden modules (Rails and Tables) await the budding boarder.
Not far from the Les Angles village cross country skiers and snow shoe fans can enjoy the two Nordic ski areas with 36km of relaxing, peaceful trails (marked and groomed) through the neighbouring forests.
Lac De Balcère and Sources de l’Aude Nordic ski areas.
Les Angles has two distinct areas for Nordic skiing (cross country skiing and snow shoeing) which are located on either side of the alpine ski area.
Nordic Area Sources de l’Aude is located at the base of the Pla Del Mir sector of the ski area. It is just a 5 minute drive from the centre of town by car or on the free local shuttle bus which leaves from the cable car (circuit 1). Here you will find four looped circuits that start and finish at the Pla Del Mir.
Nordic Area Lac De Balcère is located to the right of the ski area in a tranquil wooded area above the Belvédère area of town with its chalet lined streets. It is just a 10 minute drive from the centre of town by car or on the free local shuttle bus which leaves from the cable car (circuit 4). Here you will find two looped circuits that start and finish at the Belvédère de Balcère.
We have a conveniently located hire shop in Les Angles for all your ski and snowboard equipment needs. We offer competitive prices and special offers are also available.
